The group of genus Faunis cannot be observed in Japan and I hoped I found this species during my first trip to south-east Asian region. However, this group likes relatively dark environment and they are very sensitive so it is hard to take photo of them.
Waking around the forest trail near small stream, this butterfly abruptly flied up and away to hide inside of the forest. Then the inserted photo was taken with electric flashing light. Generally speaking, it is very difficult to take photo of this group without flashing light.The forewing has vivid orange patch which may be attractive sign for mating behavior.
